Anyone who has tried to shed pounds by adhering to a diet knows that it is not a walk in the park. Although it is extremely difficult for the weighing scale to budge, it is not entirely impossible. However, keep in mind that there are a few things that may be hindering your weight loss journey.

Lack of Sleep

Sleep and diet may not look related at first thought but they work hand in hand in bringing you an overall healthy body. As such, shuteye is oftentimes an unnoticed factor when considering weight loss.

Previous studies have shown that not getting enough Zzzzs can stimulate your appetite. Sleep deprivation has been linked to the release of the hormone in charge of hunger.

Underlying Condition

It can get frustrating whenever you see your weight not dropping despite all the efforts to exercise and eat healthily. If you’ve done everything you can and still didn’t see any changes, you may have an underlying condition that you need to address first.

For instance, people suffering from a thyroid problem have observed that it’s difficult for them to lose weight and that’s because the organ responsible for metabolism may be producing too much or too little hormones.

Not a Well-Balanced Diet

Some diet plans are so restricting that they hinder people from getting the right amount of nutrients. Bear in mind that our body needs food to run so without a well-balanced program, you can only imagine how tired and sluggish we would feel.

Think of it this way: your car needs to fuel to run but as the owner of the vehicle, you need to make sure that you give it the right kind of fuel for efficient performance.

Insufficient Calories

The most common misconception in losing weight is that the lesser food we eat; the more pounds we will shed. Although there is some truth to this claim – think: if you deprive your body of calories, you’re sure to lose a few kilos – it can also ricochet and prevent you from reaching your goal.

Whenever you eat too little, meaning well below the recommended calorie intake, your body starves and will start storing fat. This is because it now thinks that it will not get any more food and begins ‘hoarding’ for future use.

You’re Healthy

It’s the society’s fault for dictating what size or shape is acceptable and what’s not. Trying to lose weight in order to ‘fit in’ is never right.

Most people find that dieting is exhausting whenever they do it for their peers. Losing weight is more sustainable if you do it for yourself if you find the activities meaningful, and if you keep your overall wellbeing in mind.
